“Now I am aware of no people, however refined and learned or however savage and ignorant, which does not think that signs are given of future events, and that certain persons can recognize those signs and foretell events before they occur.” Cicero De Divinatione 1.2

The word
"Divination" may have been originally derived from the Hellenic word
"frenzy" later receiving the Latin term from the word meaning
"gods (divi.)" Divination was a form of spiritual science
that stemmed from the belief that the Gods disclose Their will to
people through signs, omens, and dreams. These meaningful messages
were then revealed by way of interpretation or intuition.
Individuals who intercepted and interpreted these messages were thus
divinely inspired and considered gifted and exceptional. Cicero
writes "There is an ancient belief, handed down to us even from
mythical times and firmly established by the general agreement of
the Roman people and of all nations, that divination of some kind
exists among men." He further states "A really splendid and
helpful thing it is - if only such a faculty exists - since by its
means men may approach very near to the power of gods."
Divination was and is an invaluable aspect of worship in the Temple of Religio Romana. It is a natural and learned form of evaluation that concurs with divine enlightenment and purpose. These gifts of insight provide a powerful tool in communicating with the divine and understanding our providence and fate. By implementing these realities into our lives and actively seeking certain truths, we can further our spiritual growth and begin our path toward unraveling the perplexities of existence. |
